Numb To The World

He stared out at the water from the shore yearning for something… anything. The night sky had done little to stir his heart. The gleaming light from the stars and moon cascaded across the surface of the water, but he could not see the beauty. Endless black was all he could see in the water. The blood stains on his dark pants seemed to light up in the night alongside the stars as if taunting him. I’m still here, it whispered to him. I will always be here. He suddenly ripped the clothes from his body to escape the blood and the taunting. He stood bare in front of the moon and the water, wondering if it could ever go back to the way it was. Splotches of dirt and blood stained his body from head to toe.

He began to slowly walk into the lake and tried to feel the sensation of the cool water on his body. The grime that had covered him had started to fall from his body as he went further into the dark water. The water brought comfort to his battered and scarred corpse. He allowed his eyes to fall shut as he pushed farther into the water. As he immersed his entire body under the water, a sudden sensation flooded his body. I feel it, he thought to himself. I feel…
